Reflection 28 - November 23, 2011 - Wednesday

Today, we have our composition rehearsal. I played mine after Safira and I made some mistakes. Then each student played their composition. After half of the class did it, he gave us a paper with key signatures.

-Instrument Class-
Today, I practiced my composition with an octave higher for my right hand, like Mr Herry suggested last week. It was quite hard because my right hand has to reach, for example: C to C, E to E, all the time. But I will keep trying. If I still make mistakes playing it, I will play it like usual. I did get a chance to play in front of Mr Herry. I am still going to practice at home with an octave high on my right hand.

Reflection 27 - November 22, 2011 - Tuesday

Before learning about melodic, harmonic and natural minor scale, we did a quiz review. It was easy for the first 5 questions but I still got a perfect score.

-Instrument Class-
I practiced my composition and then I played it in front of Mr Herry. He gave me some suggestion with the notes and I think I am going to do it. It sounds better.

Reflection 26 - November 16, 2011 - Wednesday

We learnt about the relative minor scale of major scale. Then he showed us an example of a circle of fifth by the Beatles. Then he asked each students the relative of major scales. 4 students also play their composition in front of the class.

-Instrument Class-
Today I played my composition in front of Mr Herry. I made a couple of mistakes because I haven't practice. I also wrote the wrong notes on the Aminor chord for my left hand.

Reflection 25 - November 15, 2011 - Tuesday

Today, we review about chord progression. Then he gave us a work to do. We have to create a chord from C, G, Am, and F. Then he told us we will be performing our composition in front of our parents!

-Instrument Class-
I did not get the chance to play today in front of Mr Herry so I will do it tomorrow. Only Calista, Sarah and Astri gets to play their composition. I am going to practice my composition at home.

Reflection 24 - November 9, 2011 - Wednesday

Today, Mr Herry teaches all of us chord progression. After showing a presentation about it, he asked 2 students to distribute the assessment booklet for the AABA composition.

-Instrument Class-
Some of us only printed a copy of our composition and Mr Hery wants 2. So he didn't want the students to play if we only have a copy. At home, I will print my composition.

Reflection 23 - November 8, 2011 - Tuesday

Before talking about the composition, Samuel and Ikhsan have to do their singing assessment. Then Mr Herry told us that tomorrow is the due date for our final Finale composition.

-Instrument Class-
Today, Mr Herry corrected some of the notes in my composition. Then he showed me the other 2 kinds of playing the chord (for left hand). I am going to use 3 different kinds of playing the chord for my composition.

This is me playing the composition with the left hand accompaniment. The video is not full because the email wont fit so I have to cut it half to upload it. I still make some mistakes while playing this but I am going to practice more to play this composition with no mistake.

Reflection 22 - November 2, 2011 - Wednesday

     Before warming up for the singing assessment, Mr Herry gave the students their projects about the Western Music. I got 8 out of 8 so Mr Herry asked the students who gets perfect score to submit it back to him to be stick to the wall. Then all of us to stand up and sing the song Indonesia Pusaka together. After 10 group of students singing, it is my turn to sing Indonesia Pusaka with Jessica. After I sing with Jessica, I think we did a great job but Jessica is a better singer than me. I don't think I did a horrible job like the previous assessment so I think I did a good job.

Reflection 21 - November 1, 2011 - Tuesday

     Today, Mr Herry gave all of us a paper with bars to write our melody composition. The paper has 32 bars and we have to write reflection about the making of the composition after. Then he asked some of the students to practice singing for tomorrow's singing assessment.

     In instrument class, we all practice singing Indonesia Pusaka. We are divided into 2 groups to sing 2 different tone for some notes in the song. Its a little difficult for me because Im in a group where we have to sing mostly the higher notes. But I have planned with my partner that me and Jessica are going to sing Indonesia Pusaka normally.

Reflection 20 - October 26, 2011 - Wednesday

     Mr Herry gave all of us the booklet for our music reflection. It is a book to write our music reflection every week. Mr Herry then tell all of us to find a partner to sing Indonesia Pusaka next week for another singing assessment. My partner is Jessica. He then checked all of our composition and made some correction to people's composition.

     In instrument class, I practiced the composition and I put some notes for my left hand. Mr Herry also asked the students to download Finale for next week so at home, I will finish the left hand composition and download Finale.

Reflection 19 - October 25, 2011 - Tuesday

     Today, Mr Herry explained to us 3 ways to expand 4 bars to 8 bars. Then he gave us a booklet of all the composition the class made. Then we all have to make the 32 bars composition. Mr Herry then explained to us the project about the survey. We have to do a survey to 20 people (Binusians, family) and make a graph for each question.

     In instrument class, I have to play my 32 bars composition in front of Mr Herry because I finished it last week. Then he gave me the chord for each bar so at home, I will do the survey homework, put the chord notes in my music book and download Finale for next week. 

Reflection 18 - October 18, 2011 [Tuesday]

Today, Mr. Herry gave us a paper about western music. He gave us 8 minutes to read the paper and then he will ask students about it. Some of the students did not get the chance to be asked though. Our homework last week is to write reflection on the booklet Mr. Herry gave us. Mr. Herry then told all of us that if we didn't put pictures, we will get maximum 50% score so I told him that I am going to submit it after school. During instrument class, the guitar students joined us because the teacher is absent. I asked permission from Mr. Herry to do my reflection booklet with my laptop. After music class is done, I went to the 5th floor and print the screen shots. I then submit it to Mr. Herry.

Reflection 17 - October 12, 2011 [Wednesday]

Today, Mr. Herry asked a couple of students from each instrument to play their composition. He asked me but I haven't put the left hand accompaniment so I didn't play it. So he asked me to play it next week. So at home, I will make sure that I put the left hand accompaniment and practice at home. I also have to download the Finale application. He also told us to come on Thursday to take the music development booklet. We all also have to make the composition on the paper that Mr. Herry will give us on Thursday.

-Instrument Class-
Today in instrument class, Mr. Herry asked the students to listen to Nico playing the song he is going to play in the Music Fiesta competition. After giving him some suggestions on the song, Mr. Herry asked all of us to play our composition song. So tomorrow, I have to remember to get the booklet and paper and re-write the composition and to upload more videos on the blog. And to practice the composition with left hand accompaniment.

In this video, I still made a mistake playing the composition with the left hand accompaniment. It was quite hard so I will keep practicing so I will get it right the next time I play it in class.

In this video, I made a mistake playing the 12th bar. It was hard because there's D and G on the left hand accompaniment and the notes in the bar are played fast.

Reflection 16 - October 11, 2011 [Tuesday]

Today, Mr. Herry asked each student to tell their blog name. Some of them haven't make the blog. Then Mr. Herry asked me to play 1, 6, 4, 2-5, 1 (C, A, F, D-G, C) in front of the class. I haven't practice at home so it was a little hard for me to play it and I also keep forgetting the notes. But at home, I am going to practice so the next time Mr. Herry ask me to play it, I can play it with no mistake.

-Instrument Class-
Today in instrument class, Mr. Herry gave all of us time to practice our composition and he told all of the piano students that we have to have a Finale application for the composition assessment on our laptop. He showed us a couple of examples of the previous grade's Finale work. He also played my composition as an example with the left hand.

Reflection 15 - October 5, 2011 [ Wednesday]

Today, Mr. Herry explained to us about major and minor scale and harmonic combination. He asked some students to answer some questions about harmonic combination. Then he checked our homework, the 16th composition song. Some of us only did 8th bar so he asked those people to continue in class. But I already did 16th bar at home so I dont have to continue. He then checked all of our's composition. He made some suggestions for my composition and he teaches us about the AABA method. And he told us that we have to make an AABA composition for our homework.

-Instrument Class-
Today in instrument class, Mr. Herry teaches how to play the chord with our left hand. We all have to do C, F, A, D, G and C again. It was pretty hard so Im going to practice at home and I also have to finish the AABA homework.

Reflection 14 - October 4, 2011 [Tuesday]

Today, the woodwind students has to do their test day. So Mr. Herry gave them time to practice while the other students made a 6 bar composition. Mr. Herry asked us to do a 16 bar composition so I will finish it at home.

Today in instrument class, I have to continue the composition. Then I have to finish it at home.

Reflection 13 - September 28, 2011 [Wednesday]

Today is the assessment day for all the instrument. I practice before the class to make sure that I made no mistake. While I was practicing, I didnt make any mistake but when its the official assessment time, I made some mistakes playing the middle part. I was really nervous and I really hope I can re-do this because it wasn't the best performance. And I noticed some of my friends also made mistakes. The woodwind students did not have the chance to do their assessment day so they will do it tomorrow.

Reflection 12 - September 27, 2011 [Tuesday]

Today, Im hoping that I will be able to play the song with no mistake. And I hope that Mr. Herry can correct the mistake I made while playing the song because tomorrow is the exam day for the Sonata song. Today is the rehearsal day for tomorrow's classical song playing. I was really nervous because even after practicing at home, I still make some mistakes while playing. So at home, I will practice until I make no mistake. Only the violin class have the instrument.

Reflection 11 - September 21, 2011 [Wednesday]

Today, Mr. Herry told each student to take their unit planner and to start reading. And one of the student from each instrument has to perform their song for the assessment. Then Mr. Herry told all of us our quiz score for the major 7 and inversion. Then its early instrument class so we all write our reflection.

-Instrument Class-
Today in instrument class, I practiced the song Mr. Herry gave me and it is very hard because I really have to open my hands wide and I cant really reach the notes. And there is 4 sharps which makes the song much more hard.

Reflection 10 - September 20, 2011 [Tuesday]

Today is the submission day for our booklet project but I forgot to put the conclusion at the end of the booklet so Im going to submit it tomorrow. Then Mr. Herry reviewed about the G, D and A Major 7 and the inversion. Then one of the student did her singing assessment. After that, one student from each instrument class has to perform their song for the assessment. After the 4 students performed, Mr. Herry told us to write our reflection and go to our instrument class.

-Instrument Class-
Today in instrument class, Mr. Herry showed me a Sonata song. My song is harder than the song he showed me so Im going to copy the song and try to play it at home. Then each of us played the song.

Reflection 9 - September 14, 2011 - Wednesday

Today I did the music notation test. It wasn't pretty hard but the inversion part still confused me a lot times. Then Mr. Herry told all of us to go to our instrument class after the 40 minutes test. He also reminded us about the western music booklet that is due on Tuesday. So at home Im gonna start researching ab

- Instrument Class -
Today, before practicing our sonata song, Jesslyn did her singing assessment. And then I chooses the song I am going to play for the assessment. I chooses Sonata by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozard. Its a pretty hard song because I just started learning it a week ago and if there is another sonata song, I will probably change the current Sonata song I am playing. But when I played the song to Mr. Herry, he told me that its not a real sonata song but because its still a sonata song, I am going to play it anyway. After all of us played our song, he explained us and gave us homework. He wants us to make an 8 bar composition song. So at home, I am going to do it.

Reflection 8 - September 13, 2011 - Tuesday

Mr. Herry gave us a quiz today for the preparation of tomorrow's music notation test. He said it was the same questions for tomorrow's quiz. I didnt really know that we'll have a quiz tomorrow so I didnt really study anything but because today is just a practice, I ask Mr. Herry with notes that Im still confused about. And he also reminded us about the western music personal booklet. After the presentation, Mr. Herry told all of us to do another project by, for me, making a booklet about pop western music. Mr. Herry also teaches us music notation for those people who are still confused.

- Instrument Class -
In instrument class, me and the other piano students listened to a group who haven't present their presentation about western music. After that, Mr. Herry discussed us about the Sonata song that we are going to play in November/December. So at home I will search the Sonata song that Im gonna play for the test.

Reflection 7 - August 16, 2011 - Tuesday

Today is my singing assessment day and I am VERY nervous because I dont really have time to practice at home. I have a lot of homework the previous day and a western music power point to finish. I was editing the power point with one of my team mates outside the music room and when I came in, Mr. Herry told me it was my time to do the singing assessment. I was very very nervous! I thought we're gonna do the power point presentation first then the singing assessment or at least Mr. Herry giving me and my other class mates who haven't done the singing assessment time to practice but he didn't. So it was my time to sing and I couldn't even start singing the first line. I was very unprepared and Im not really good with public speaking AND public singing so I guess I know that Im not gonna get a good score with this. So after my other class mates sing their song, its time for my group to do the presentation. I think me and my group did a really good work with the presentation except not having cards to read. But because I did my work for the power point, I understand what I write. After that, Mr. Herry gave us some comments about our presentation. And then I listen to other presentation. 

Today is also my last day to be in school. 

Reflection 6 - August 10, 2011 - Wednesday

Today is the 3rd part of our singing assessment. I didn't get a chance to sing because we have instrument class so on Tuesday, I am going to do my singing assessment. Im very nervous because I cant really sing in public so I hope I practice good enough so I can sing in front of the whole class. I also have to finish the western music power point with the rest of my team mates.

-Instrument Class-
Today all of us played the major 7 again. I didnt practice at home because I dont have the time to do it but on the weekend, I will make sure I practice major 7 chord.

Reflection 5 - August 9, 2011 (Tuesday)

Today is the second part of our singing assessment. And because Im the last one to sing, I didn't get a chance to sing today. So at home, Im going to practice singing my song "Forget You".  Mr. Herry also reminded us about the power point assignment for September. We have to do a research about pop classic, pop rock, pop rock and roll, pop jazz and pop country. I know my team members and we took parts by choosing one of the 5 topics and do a summary about each for tomorrow's outline presentation about what we're going to talk about for our pop music power point. So at home I will make sure that I practice singing and do the power point research for tomorrow.

-Instrument Class-
Today, Mr. Herry teaches me about Major 7 diminished etc. It was a little bit hard to play because I have long nails. Also Mr. Herry didn't let me to play all the major because of my nails. So at home, I will cut my nails and practice playing the major 7. I will also do my other music homework's; power point presentation research and singing assessment.

Reflection 4 - August 3, 2011 (Wednesday)

Today is the assessment day for singing western song. It starts alphabetically so I know Im gonna be the last to sing. I think around 12 people sing today. Mr. Herry then told us to write our reflection because we are going to go to our instrument class. So at home, Im going to update my blog and practice singing the western song for next week's assessment. 


-Instrument Class-
Today, Mr. Herry told all of us to play C, D and E major and C, D and E major 7. It was a little bit hard because I did not practice at home. But next week, I will practice Major 7 at home and play it next week. 

Reflection 3 - August 2, 2011 (Tuesday)

Today, Mr. Herry told all of us to submit the instrumental song that we're gonna sing for tomorrow's assessment. I am going to sing 'Forget You' by Cee Lo Green but Im going to sing the Glee version of the song. I really like the song. It is a little bit hard to sing but I really want to sing this song so I choose this song. So at home, today, I am going to update my blog and rehearse to sing the western song for tomorrow's assessment. We also study Major 7th today.


-Instrument Class-
Today, Mr. Herry told all the piano students to play C major 2 octave and play it again but reversely. I have a little difficulty playing because I dont usually play it like that. And he also gave us a homework; to practice playing Major 7, Major 7 Dominant and Minor. So at home, Im going to practice playing it. 

Reflection 2 - July 27, 2011 (Wednesday)

Today, we sang the Binusian song. The old students are told to sang the song in front. But then we all ended up singing it together. Mr. Herry then gave us the test yesterday we did and I got a good score. Then, Mr. Herry explained the major scales to everyone in class. He also told us that we're going to have an assessment. We all have to sing a western song individually next week. 


-Instrument Class-
Today, I played the C, D, E, F, G, A and B major scale today. I haven't play piano as often as I used to so I forgot some. 

Reflection 1 - July 26, 2011 (Tuesday)

Today, Mr. Herry made all the new students to introduce themselves. Then gave all the students Music Planner handouts.Then before instrument class, he gave us a quick music theory test. After submitting the test, I write my reflection. Mr. Herry also reminded the students about the blog and so at home Im going to check my blog and tell Mr. Herry the website. I will also write my reflection to my blog.
